HID conversion kit Fix for Volvo S60 / V70 / S80 to kill codes
Here is the best solution when you install HID lights / our Xenon conversion HID kit in your Volvo S60/V70N/S80 and want the WARNING eliminated on the dashboard display. HID lamps draw less current than the normal 55W bulb – therefore setting on the warning message on the dashboard display.
In order to fix this, You will have to modify the current sensing in the CEM (Central Electronic Module).
First remove the cover under the dashboard using a T25 Torx screwdriver. The Volvo CEM is mounted to the left behind the dashboard, there is no need to remove the CEM, but we have done so just to make it visible. (see picture).
The sensor for the current is a 5 pin plug-in shuntresistor module located on the lower left side of the CEM. It's a 1 x 2 inch black thin module. On most markets, the shunts alongside the low beam shunt are not mounted. The shunt contains two resistors; 10 mohm between pins 3 & 2, and 28,5 mohm between pins 1 & 2. The current to the headlamps runs from pin 3 to pin 2. Remove the shunt.
By drilling a 2mm hole in the shunt, in the second groove above pin 3, the resistance will increase to 13 mohm and the CEM will see a 30% times higher value for a given current. (See picture).
Install the shunt and turn on the headlights to verify that they work and that no warning message appears. Fasten the cover. -Done!
The shunt only costs about 4€ (part number: 9442190.")
