About a month ago, I ordered a HID conversion kit for 45.99 usd on Ebay. The kit was shipped from Hongkong, a part of mainland China. Needless to say, the shipping and handling fee was rediculously high which was 40 usd. That was totally insane. Besides the high shipping fee, the shipping was extremely slow and that took almost three weeks to get to my hands. But, any way, the HID conversion kit finally arrived in one piece after all these unpleasant small issues.
Installation was pretty much plug and play. Except that you have to drill a hole on the headlamp assembly for these wires to come out. Remeber to place to ballast in a dry and safe place in the engine bay. I have done all this and fired it up. The HID was good except a little dimmer than I expected.
After two weeks of glorious and bright nights, the left side head lamp went out. Yup, only two weeks, a positive feedback had been left and the ballast just burned out. After five minutes later, the right side went out too. In the meanwhile, the car stalled and can be restarted but the battery light is on. I took my babie to the dealer and it turns out to be that my alternator is gone because of this BAD HID CONVERSION KIT. I spend another 350 usd to replace the alternator and 185 usd for aftermarket alternator. I have the picture of the receipt. All I can say is
"F*** CHINESE junk!!"
The seller won't refund because there is no warranty. All I can do is to file a claim through my credit card company against this chinese bustard.
Here is the end of the story. If you think that 45 usd is the risk that you want to take, so go ahead and be a stupid like me spending another 358 usd at dealership. I am still worrying if there are still some unseen internal damage that I can't find out.
Below are the pictures that I put these Subaru HID conversion kit on my 1999 Audi A6 2.8L. These Audi are notorious for their eletrical problems but she is my babie and I want her shining at night. Look at the HID behind the OEM projector. It's just amazing. I put a H1 bulb into my Audi. They are in perfect match.
As you can see, the left spot is from HID light source and the right spot is from typical halogen lamp. The difference is huge.
Both light are Subaru HID. I just love it!!
CHINA FREE = FAULT FREENo fault codes show up when HID is in operation.
Picture tells everything!!
